How does mold get into a house? This is a very common question. Molds are decomposers of organic material such as wood, plants and animals remains. Therefore, mold and mold spores are found in high concentrations wherever there is dead organic matter such as a pile of leaves, manure or compost outdoors. Mold spores are blown into the buildings by wind through open windows, doors, and other openings or on people, animals and objects that are brought into the building.
When mold spores settle on surfaces with excessive moisture, such as where leakage may have occurred in roofs, pipes, walls, plant pots, or where there has been flooding, they germinate and grow into mold.
