Mycotoxins are fungal by-products (secondary metabolites) which are poisonous to man and animals. One of the best known mycotoxin is aflatoxin. It is produced by Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasitica. Aflatoxin is well known as a trigger for cancer (i.e., it is carcinogenic).
