Where can mold grow? This is a very common question. Generally mold can grow anywhere as long as there is moisture and nutrients. Although there is an optimal temperature for mold growth, most of the molds found in indoor environment can grow over a wide range of temperatures.
In indoor environment mold growth occurs when mold spores settle on surfaces of wet organic material. Moisture availability in materials is the limiting factor preventing mold growth as well as the easiest to control.
Extensive mold growth in homes and other buildings is an indicator of excess moisture. The common sources of moisture in building include floods, roof leaks, drainage or plumbing problems and the occupants activities such as showering and cooking. A less obvious source of moisture is condensation on cold building surfaces.
